This message is being issued for the Great Ocean Road from Kennett River to Lorne. 
  • The immediate threat of flash flooding has passed.
  • Hazards including mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees may still be present. 
  • Crews are monitoring roads and bridges. Drive to the conditions. Follow directions from emergency services and traffic management.

Floodwater and debris, avoid contact with water from Lorne to Kennett River. 
  • Water quality may be impacted from Lorne to Kennett River on the Great Ocean Road. The EPA have been undertaking water quality testing.   
  • Avoid contact with floodwater and debris. 
  • Do not let pets swim in or drink the water. 
  • When cleaning up, wear protective equipment like gloves, goggles and rubber boots and wipe down hands and surfaces thoroughly. 

There is no immediate threat to the community but hazards may still be present in the warning area. 
Impacts in your area.
  • The Great Ocean Road is open with speed restrictions in place at Cumberland River Bridge. 
  • Wye River Pedestrian Bridge remains closed.
  • Cumberland River Holiday Park remains closed. 
  • Parts of the Great Otway National Park remain closed. Parks Victoria are inspecting and repairing damaged areas. Visit https://www.parks.vic.gov.au for the latest information on park closures.
  • VICSES is working with key stakeholders including land managers, Traditional Owners, the Environmental Protection Agency, Victoria Police, local government, and the Department of Transport to progress the recovery of the impacted vehicles. Planning is currently underway to determine how the retrieval can be completed safely, with careful consideration given to minimising any impacts on the local area. As soon as we have determined the approach for the retrieval, we will share this information with the community.
