Community meetings

A community meeting will be held on 25 March 2018 at 4.30pm at Cobden Civic Hall, 53-55 Victoria Street, Cobden.

A number of community meetings have been held regarding the Southwest fires. Details of further community meetings will be advised as they are known.

Relief centres open

There are two relief centres operating for people affected by the Southwest fires and severe weather:

  • Terang Civic Hall, 129 Mary Bradshaw Avenue (open 24 hours)
  • Cobden Civic Hall, 53-55 Victoria Street (open 9am - 5pm)

Recovery information will be ongoing as the fire event unfolds, however outlined below is some key considerations for community during relief and recovery.

Community Health Assessment Centre

A Community Health Assessment Centre has been set up by the Department of Health of Human Services and Ambulance Victoria, based out of the Terang Relief Centre (Terang Civic Hall, 129 Mary Bradshaw Avenue), to conduct health assessments and assist anyone concerned about their health. If you are concerned about possible exposure to carbon monoxide from the fire, Ambulance Victoria and other health staff are conducting testing for carbon monoxide poisoning, and providing further information for local residents.

  •        Rubbish/ Waste disposal
  •        Asbestos issues (Councils are managing asbestos issues/clean up).
  •        Fencing/ Trees along the boundary
  •        Native vegetation along the road or roadside
  •        Stock holding
  •        Planning and building
  •        Dead stock disposal

Councils can download facts sheets and recovery specific information for their communities via the Emergency Management Relief and Recovery Communications Portal. This includes information collated from across government department and agencies websites.
