Mildura focussed on floods

POSTED:

The focus for emergency services personnel in Mildura turns today from fires to floods.

The Murray River at Mildura is expected to peak tomorrow, but will remain at the minor flood level.

Incident Controller Paul Foster said a lot of work was being done to prepare residents ahead of tomorrow’s expected peak.

“We are expecting the Murray to rise to around 36.7m – that’s just above the minor flooding indicator,” he said.

“We identify this as being similar to the Mildura floods of December in 1992. Locals remember that flood well.

“Emergency services are monitoring the levee and sandbagging any areas of concern. We want to make sure we don’t suffer any inundation to housing or critical infrastructure.

“There’s also a lot of work being done also to inform the community of any potential concerns.”
