This Advice message is being issued for Buragwonduc, Crookayan, Glencairn, Glenfalloch, Koorool, Licola, Licola North, Nap Nap Marra, Sargood, Tamboritha, Worrowing, Wrathung, Wrixon.

  • The bushfire at Mt Margaret Walking Track in the Alpine National Park is not yet under control.
  • Driven by very dry conditions, the fire remains active and has grown further to over 5400 hectares.
  • Assisted by aircraft, firefighters continue to work on strengthening containment lines along Mount Margaret Track, Tamboritha Road, Moroka Road, Mount Wellington Track, Avon Turton Divide Track and Mount Hump South Track. 
  • Back burning operations continue on the western and southern edge of the fire at Mt Margaret Track and Chromite Mine Track.
  • Heavy firefighting machinery and large vehicles are operating in the area on main roads and forest tracks.

There is currently no threat to local communities, but you should continue to stay informed and monitor weather conditions and warnings.

If the situation changes, campgrounds and roads may be closed at short notice.  Visitors should stay informed, monitor weather conditions and warnings, and remain ready and able to move away.  
What you should do: 
  • Review your fire survival plan. 
  • If you do not have a plan, decide what you will do if the situation changes.
  • Reduce speed and drive to the conditions, especially on narrow winding roads.
  • Watch for emergency response teams and follow their directions.
Impacts in your area: 

  • Firefighters, aircraft and plant machinery will remain working in the area.
  • You will see smoke in the area which can affect your health. If you are experience any symptoms that may be due to smoke exposure, seek medical advice or call NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 60 60 24. 
Park Closures
  • Avon Wilderness Park is currently closed due to bushfire. 
  • Areas within the southern section of the Alpine National Park are also closed due to bushfire.

  • Moroka Range Track 
  • Burgoyne track east of the Licola Road
  • Mt Margaret Track

  • Mt Wellington Track
  • Hickeys Creek Track and Hickeys Creek Track - East 
  • Avon Track
