This Watch and Act message is being issued for Arbuckle, Billabong, Howitt Plains, Reynard, Tamboritha, Wongungarra, Wonnangatta.
  • There is a bushfire at Wonnangatta Valley that is not yet under control. 
  • The bushfire is travelling from the Wonnangatta Valley in a westerly direction towards the Howitt Road. 
Don't wait, leaving the area now is the safest option - conditions may change and get worse very quickly. Emergency services may not be able to help you if you decide to stay. 
What you should do: 
  • Monitor changes to the situation. Increased wind speed, change in wind direction, smoke or poor visibility can indicate the situation is changing.
  • Protect yourself and your family. 
  • When driving, slow down, turn on your headlights and watch for emergency service vehicles. Smoke will make it difficult to see.

All access to the Wonnangatta Valley is closed.

  • Zeka Spur Track
  • Herne Spur Track
  • Wonnangatta Track between Herne Spur and Rileys Track
  • Humphrey River Track south of Wombat Range
  • Howitt Road 
  • Bryces Gorge and Guys Hut
  • Caledonia River Track
  • Butcher Country Track
  • King Billy Track
