This Watch and Act message is being issued for Mitta Valley including Tallandoon, Eskdale, Mitta Mitta, Dartmouth and surrounds.
  • There is a bushfire at 25Km West Of Walwa that is not yet under control.
  •  Firefighters have been able to slow the spread of fire for now, but the situation can change at any time. You must monitor conditions and be ready to act. 
  • The fire in this area and crews are working to strengthen containment lines and conduct controlled back burning.
  • Works are occurring to restore essential services. Traffic Management Points are currently in place across the impacted area while roads are assessed and made safe from dangerous trees.
  • This Watch and Act replaces the Watch and Act issued at 5:58pm on Thursday 15 January 2026.

The situation can change at any time. You must monitor conditions and be ready to act.
What you should do: 
  • Monitor changes to the situation. Increased wind speed, change in wind direction, smoke or poor visibility can indicate the situation is changing. 
  • Enact your fire survival plan. 
  • If you do not have a plan, decide what you will do if the situation changes. 
  • If you have time, check your neighbours to see if they are monitoring conditions. 
  • Protect yourself and your family.
Leave if the situation changes or you feel unsafe. 
Remember to: 
  • Take your pets, medications, mobile phone and charger. 
  • Many people have died trying to leave at the last minute during fires. 
  • Travel to the home of family or friends that are away from the warning area.
  • The Wodonga Emergency Relief Centre located at the Exhibition Centre will be open from 9am - 5pm Friday 16th January 2026, with Towong Shire and City of Wodonga Staff on site to provide support referrals and relief information for community.  It will be closed from 5pm Friday January 16th 2026.  Further assistance can be provided at the following information hubs below.

  • Murray Valley Highway between Granya Road and Price Hill Lane
