This Community Information message is being issued for the Cobden, Simpson and Pirron Yallock communities, and communities south-west of Colac
  • There is a bushfire at Carlisle River that is not yet under control
  • Smoke and active fire will be visible from nearby communities and roads, due to a burning out operation being undertaken on Saturday, 17th of January 2026.
  • Firefighters are working to consolidate a fire edge on the south-east corner of the fire. 
  • The burning out operation is being carefully managed, and aims to strengthen containment lines and improve overall safety in the area.
There is no immediate threat to the community and no action is required.
Smoke and visible flames may be seen from nearby roads and communities as crews carry out planned burning out operations.
