This Moderate Flood Warning is being issued for the Ovens River downstream of Rocky Point.

MODERATE FLOODING CONTINUING AT WANGARATTA AND DOCKER ROAD BRIDGE

Moderate rainfall since Monday has caused significant river level rises and areas of minor to moderate flooding across the Ovens and King River catchments. River levels along the King River at Docker Road Bridge peaked near the major flood level Friday evening and currently falling with moderate flooding.

Moderate flooding peaked along the Ovens River at Wangaratta. Minor flooding is easing along the Buffalo River downstream of Lake Buffalo and along the Ovens River at Rocky Point. Minor flooding has eased along the King River downstream of Lake William Hovell .

Ovens River downstream of Rocky Point:

The Ovens River at Wangaratta peaked at 12.57m around 3:00 pm Saturday 04 July, with moderate flooding. 

The Ovens River at Wangaratta is currently 12.53m and falling slowly, with moderate flooding. The Ovens River at Wangaratta is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (12.40m) until Monday morning.
Stay safe - avoid the flooded area. People in riverside properties should monitor river levels closely overnight and follow their emergency plan.

What you should do:
  • People who live or work along the Ovens River should monitor river levels closely overnight and follow their emergency plan, including people who live within the Parfitt Road and Wilson Road levees. 
  • Locate your emergency kit, if you have one. 
  • Floodwater is dangerous - never enter floodwater.
If you choose to leave:
  • Remember to take your pets, mobile phone, spare clothes and medications.
  • Travel to the home of family or friends who are in a safe location, away from flooding.
  • Turn off gas and electricity at your home or workplace.
  • Be aware of any road closures when you leave.
If you are travelling:
  • Do not enter flooded areas. Turn around a find a safe alternative route.
  • Be aware of road hazards including mud, debris and damaged roads or bridges.
  • Floodwater is dangerous - never drive, walk or ride through floodwater.
If you stay or if it is unsafe to leave:
  • Make sure you have enough food, drinking water, medications and pet food to survive for three to five days in case you become isolated.
  • Use plugs, sandbags or household items to block toilets, sinks and drains to stop sewerage backflow.
  • Lift it - move valuables and vital household items up on high surfaces, such as on top of tables, chairs, benches and beds.

Impacts in your area - Wangaratta: 
  • At the predicted 12.6 metres, floodwater may reach between Yogi's mouth and nose in APEX park, and floodwater from the King River may fill the Kaluna Wetlands into Merriwa Park. 
  • Deep floodwater around Northern Beaches, Sydney Beach, Pinkerton Crescent. 
  • Bickerton Street and Mundgee Place carparks are flooded, and Painters Island Caravan Park is now closed. 
  • Moderate flooding of Pinkerton Crescent.
  • Floodwater will enter backyards along Templeton Street and Baker Street. 
  • Many riverside and creekside paths and bike tracks are now closed.
  • There will be extensive local road closures - drive with care and never enter floodwater. 
  • Floodplains and farmland to the North, South and East of Wangaratta have started to flood around Tarrawingee, Markwood, Oxley Flats, Londrigan, Bowser, Docker Plains and North Wangaratta.

  • Widespread farmland with minor flooding. 
  • The Snow Road may be closed between the Great Alpine Road and Carboor-Everton Road. 
  • The Whorouly Road North of the shop may be closed to the Snow Road.
