This Flood Watch is being issued for the Otway Coast.

  • A low pressure system is expected to linger over parts of the state during Saturday, resulting in persistent southeasterly winds and moderate to heavy falls through parts of the Otways.
  • Heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding is forecast to develop from the early hours of Saturday morning, before first light.
  • Catchments are moderately wet and may respond quickly to rainfall.
  • The location, intensity and timing of this forecast rainfall is highly uncertain.

What you should do:
  • If you are camping close to a creek or river, you may be at risk of flooding and need to move to higher ground, away from waterways.
  • River levels may rise extremely quickly and can be dangerous. Be aware of floodwater rising near you.
  • Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. Heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
  • Decide what you and your family will do if flooding impacts you. For information on how to prepare go to www.ses.vic.gov.au/get-ready/floodsafe.
  • Stay informed by listening to emergency broadcasters and monitoring warnings.
Impacts in your area: 
  • Depending on where the rain falls, and how intense it is, this event may be similar to January 2026, which resulted in significant flash flooding impacting the Otway Coast.
  • Rain fall in the area may begin any time from around 1am on Saturday morning.
  • Six-hourly rainfall totals between 20mm and 35mm are likely, with isolated totals up to 50mm possible.
  • 24-hour rainfall totals between 50mm and 80mm are likely, with isolated falls up to 150mm possible about elevated parts.
  • High tide in the area is expected around 3.45am to 4am on Saturday morning.
  • Conditions are expected to ease during Sunday morning.
If you are travelling:
  • Do not enter flooded areas. Turn around a find a safe alternative route.
  • Be aware of road hazards including mud, debris and damaged roads or bridges.
  • Floodwater is dangerous - never drive, walk or ride through floodwater.
