Seven districts in extreme and Total Fire Bans declared

POSTED:
11 February 2026

Today, Wednesday 11 February 2026, sees elevated fire danger across Victoria.

Temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees in Mildura and 32 degrees in Melbourne, with hot north-westerly winds averaging 30-40km/h. These conditions, along with how dry the landscape is in Victoria are increasing the fire danger.

This is now the driest start to a year since 2009, with some of the Victorian rainfall stations in north west Victoria not registering rainfall in almost two months.

There are a number of fires in the landscape, including in Tallarook, Mount Disappointment State Forest, Lake Mundi and Gellibrand. Emergency services will be monitoring these during the day and continuing to reinforce containment lines.

Victorians are reminded that a Total Fire Ban has been declared for 7 districts today. These districts are the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, Central, North East, and West and South Gippsland. A Total Fire Ban means no fires can be lit or be allowed to remain alight in the open air. This includes campfires and some barbecues.
